How to Have Rules and a Relationship, With Your Children!

My Pastor Once Said (About Raising Children),
"Rules without relationship leads to rebellion."
It's worth repeating,
"Rules without relationship leads to rebellion."
I've been raising two children since 1999,
and I can say that it (the above quote) WORKS!
You can have a relationship with children -
that includes rules!
One of the keys is "balance" (in the relationship).
The second thing to realize is that
they (your children) understand that
while you are "friends" with them
a lot of the time, you will also need to speak up
when a certain "rule"/rules need to be reinforced!

This same pastor offered 3 tennets to follow
(when raising children),
1) focus on them,
2) set an example for them &
3) pray for their future spouse.
When it comes to food,
I'd suggest the following:
don't be afraid to "micro-manage" it.
Childhood obesity rates are off the charts.
In fact, it's being said that this is the first generation that won't live longer
than their parents.
That's just plain sad.
(You don't have to let that be the case
with your children.)
The three tenants I followed that worked great
with regards to food are the following:
1) No dessert in the morning,
2) Dessert only after a decent lunch/dinner (which includes protein), and
3) They're allowed to pick anything they want for dessert (just a quantity issue - as far as how much they are allowed).
